IL LUGANO U21 ESCE SENZA PUNTI DAL WANKDORF – FC Lugano

Day number 11 of the Hoval Promotion League championship brings Lugano U21 to duel with the headers of Young Boys. At the end of the ninety minutes played inside the immense Bernese facility of the Wankdorf, the three points go in the meat of Joël Magnin’s protets, who imposed themselves with the score of 3:2 (2:0).

Forced to forgo the contributions of Lendrit Shala and Niccolò Puddu, respectively called up by Kosovo U21 and Switzerland U19, as well as Nicola Gamba, Jason Parente and Yassin Sbai in particular, and on the field with an even younger lineup than in the last outings – 15-year-old Ian Tiraboschi lives his first experience with the HCL second team, being immediately titled, while 18-year-old Dario Jagodić starts initially among the substitutes -, the Ticino players run into an unfortunate start of the game. That’s because already in the sixth minute, following a quick and precise action developed from the conquest of the ball in their own half of the field, the hosts unlocked the score thanks to a valuable heel flick by Endrit Bejić, skillful in surprising the entire host’s backline. Twelve laps of the lancet elapsed and Diego Mina answered back on Daniel Mendes’ diagonal, eluded at speed by Arbnor Gecaj and intent on ambushing the subcenerino extreme defender.

The boys led by Andrea Vitali threatened to capitulate one more time in the 20th, when Ebrima Colley’s shot was miraculously rejected on the goal line by captain Luca Molino. While the locals framed the mirror of the goal with their conclusions, the Luganoese – who nevertheless tried to show their ballistic qualities – struggled to trouble Ruben Salchli. In fact, attempts in quick succession by Ilija Maslarov and Yuri Peverelli go out over the bottom without any danger for the Yellow and Black goalkeeper. On the opposite front, the duel between the author of the Confederate lead and Mina was renewed. On this occasion, to come out the winner is the latter, good at reading the trajectory of the #22’s left-handed diagonal. The complicated afternoon in the capital continued, so much so that in the 41st a lost ball on the midfield line sent Colley, held in play by Aleksandar Radić, hurtling toward the double. The Gambian’s diagonal right-footed shot aimed at the far post’s crossbar made the Capitoline rejoice for the second time just moments after referee Antoine Lehmann blew the double whistle.

Upon returning from the locker room, the HCL coaching staff opted for a double substitution: Gecaj and Peverelli gave their place on the field to Noah De Queiroz and Tobia Donnini. However, the difficulties remain those encountered during the first half. They could allow Young Boys to triple the lead in the 51st. Only the crossbar denies Bejić another personal smile. However, the class of 2006 striker does not lose heart and on the hour mark closes the file, inscribing the team’s tic-tac-toe with a precise diagonal right-footer from inside the big area.

With now few ambitions of success, the guests at least try to complete the duel by keeping their concentration high and not risking further tumbles. The mission is accomplished. And on the offensive side, the pill is first sweetened by Besart Shabanaj’s low left-footed shot as the clock marks the seventy-sixth minute. Then, the challenge summarizes a very interesting character with Rafael Frizzi’s framing from under measure. The newfound enthusiasm makes the protagonists and spectators experience an electrifying finale of the match. Which, however, does not end in what would have been an epic remuntada.

Once the match was over, coach Andrea Vitali analyzed the second setback in the last three official matches this way: “It was not a good game on our part. The important thing now is to turn the page. I don’t know if it was a matter of approach. The fact is that the team was at the mercy of the opponent for the first sixty minutes of the game. Defensively we were constantly in trouble, in attack we were not very dangerous. Then, it is true, we had a good reaction, but it was not enough. Ian Tiraboschi’s debut? It was positive and I inserted him to see if he deserved it. He did. Looking ahead to the upcoming fixtures, the guys have to think more about the collective than their own personal situation. If this group works as a team, we can take satisfaction. If, on the other hand, it works with personal goals in mind, that’s when problems can arise.“.

Filed this away game, Lugano U21 will return to joust in front of a friendly audience at the Al Maglio Sports Center in Canobbio on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Starting at 3 p.m., there will be a confrontation with the Vaud-based Bavois.
